Examining the concept of communication in folk songs in Turkish music

Abstract

In the words of the folk songs, which convey the common thoughts and feelings of the people with their melodies and poetic structure, with sincere, plain and enthusiastic melodies, information on almost every subject describing the traditional culture is encountered. These words are not only a tool used to explain the melodic side of folk songs, but also have the feature of being an effective communication tool in contributing to the social life with the messages they give. The aim of the study is to reveal the importance of folk songs in the transfer of national and traditional cultural values. In this context, the method of document analysis was used in the research, folk songs containing different topics in terms of cultural transmission were determined and obtained from the TRT repertoire, and the messages, local information and expressions among the topics and words of the folk songs were analyzed with examples. According to this; location-indicating, historical or social problems; The examples of folk songs containing the themes of desperation, separation, and expatriation and containing geographical information were presented in the study, and it was tried to reveal how important it is in terms of cultural transmission and communication.
