Abstract

Artistic research aims to explore the intrinsic meanings and societal impacts of works of art. During the research process, the researcher employs their subjective perspective and endeavors to understand the truth through an inductive approach. Embracing qualitative paradigms in art research allows for a profound understanding of the artist's insight and their created works. Qualitative data collection and analysis methods such as observation, interviews, and content analysis are frequently utilized to unveil the abstract and subjective dimensions of art. The richness and detail of the data obtained through these methods demand more effort and experience for analysis and interpretation. The primary objective of this study is to elucidate how qualitative data analysis can be conducted using computer software and, specifically, to provide guidance to researchers in this regard. MAXQDA stands out as a powerful software that enables music and art researchers to conduct qualitative data analysis more effectively and systematically. The software offers a flexible platform for analyzing various types of data related to art, including texts, images, sounds, and videos, providing significant advantages in categorizing data, discovering themes, and achieving in-depth understanding. Additionally, by assisting in deciphering the symbols and meanings of art, it enhances the richness of art research. This study examines how qualitative data analysis in art research can be conducted more effectively through MAXQDA and focuses on how researchers can utilize it with various examples.
