Examination of researches on the use of folk songs in accompaniment instrument education and their effects on performance

Studies on the use of folk songs in instrument education is an area that is being developed by many researchers. This study is important in terms of systematic review of studies based on the use of folk songs as course material in accompaniment instrument education. In the research, it was aimed to examine thirteen studies on cello education, folk songs, accompaniment instrument education and performance in three determined themes (content, method, genre). Document analysis technique, one of the qualitative research methods, is the model of the research. In determining the documents of the research, thirteen studies were determined by searching Google Scholar with the keywords of cello education, folk songs, accompaniment instrument training and performance. In the analysis of these studies, three themes were examined in terms of content, method and genre. As a result of the research, it was found that the research methods used could be categorized in five qualitative, two quantitative and three mixed designs. When the types of studies were examined, it was determined that seven of them were articles, four of them were postgraduate thesis and one of them was a book chapter. When we look at the subjects and contents of the studies, three of them are related to Teaching Processes and Model Development, seven of them are Performance and Evaluation of Performance, one of them is about Piano Accompanied Instrument training and three of them are about Adaptation of Folk Songs to Cello. It is recommended to conduct systematic review research by scanning different databases of researches in this field, as well as metaanalysis and metasynthesis researches.
