Abstract

This research was conducted to examine the philosophical motifs in Turkish folk music and to reveal the social and individual meanings of these motifs. The study was carried out using descriptive and interpretative qualitative research methods. Fundamental themes frequently encountered in Turkish folk music, such as love, death, nature, fate, social criticism, mythology, minstrel expressions, and modern philosophical tendencies, were analyzed in depth. These themes highlight the significance of Turkish folk music not only as a musical genre but also as a form of expression that reflects profound philosophical thoughts and cultural values. The findings of the research show that Turkish folk music plays critical roles in creating social consciousness, preserving cultural identity, and contributing to the search for individual identity. Themes like love and death address the fundamental elements of human existence and how these elements resonate within the inner world of individuals. Themes such as nature and fate reflect deep thoughts on the human relationship with nature and the predetermined aspects of life. Social criticism and mythology themes demonstrate how Turkish folk music responds to social events and cultural heritage, while minstrel expressions and modern philosophical tendencies emphasize the role of this music in constructing individual and social identities. This research demonstrates that Turkish folk music, with its rich philosophical and cultural content, is a cultural heritage that reflects and sustains social and individual values. Turkish folk music forms a bridge from the past to the present, supporting cultural continuity and social awareness. Studying this music contributes not only to the preservation of existing cultural heritage but also to the transmission of this heritage to future generations, ensuring the continuity of cultural and philosophical values.
