Listening of Classical Turkish Music and Popular Turkish Music in Turkey: Age- related analysis at Sakarya city

It is important to reveal the listening rates of Classical Turkish music and popular music in Turkey, and the young generation's recognition of Classical Turkish Music and popular music cultures in terms of determining the factors affecting the preferences of the listeners. The research is the examination of the consumption situation of our Classical Turkish music according to popular music today. In the research carried out with the descriptive survey model, the data were collected through the questionnaire questions developed by the researcher and finalized in line with the expert opinions, and the findings classified according to the independent variable age groups were evaluated in a way to answer the sub-problems. The participants, on the other hand, consist of individuals suitable for age groups living in Sakarya, Turkey. In this study, the opinions of Classical Turkish Music and Popular Music listening status were made by questionnaire method, and in this study, it was obtained from individuals living in Sakarya, separated by age groups, by using online communication ways. The population of the research consists of music listeners aged 23-51 and the sample is a randomized sample group (n:280) who voluntarily participated in the research. The data obtained were analyzed with the SPSS for Windows 24.0 software, and the findings were presented in tables. In the research, according to the age variable of the participants, the types of music listened to today, their views on Classical Turkish Music and social media, TV, Radio, etc. The views of the respondents about popular music were not reached. In the study, it is seen that the rate of listening to popular music of the participants in the younger age range is higher than other types of music, but the listening rates of Turkish classical music and Turkish folk music increase as the age variable increases. It is seen that social media (TV, Radio, etc.) tools have a great impact on the choice of the music that the participants listen to and the choice of these music genres. It is recommended that researchers who plan such a study in Turkey or in a different country should be made with more masses, occupational groups, and participants living in different geographical regions.
