Abstract

This study is an important study in terms of gender and music, which is an important study area of ethnomusicology. How the harp instrument, which is found in eastern and western cultures, affects social sexism has been discussed in its historical processes. In the research, document analysis method, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. The return of civilization to the harmony of women and harp, which we encounter in archaeological findings, of many false beliefs and thoughts in the prevention of women from the creation and performance of music is seen in Turkish culture in earlier periods. Miniatures in Tabriz and manuscripts in the Ottoman Empire are important examples of these. However, after the 18th century, the signs of women's entry into the field of music in western society were encountered, and the development of the harp and social sexism took many years. The Viyan Philharmonic Orchestra's first female musician in 1997, who also played the harp, has reached an important stage. It can be said that the harp, besides being a musical instrument, sheds light on ethnomusicology studies as a tool that has a very important effect on gender.
