Abstract

The aim of the study is to give information about the historical process of the "Music Teachers' School", which was opened in 1924 and is known as a teacher school and trains music teachers, and to convey information about the administrative structure of the institution, the number of students, and educational activities. Teacher schools are a legacy to the Turkish State from the Ottoman Empire. Although there are teacher schools that trained teachers for primary and secondary education levels in the Ottoman Empire, there is no educational institution that trains teachers in the field of music in this period. After the proclamation of the Republic, an educational institution named Music Teacher Mektebi started its activities for the first time in order to train music teachers. This institution continued its activities as a branch of the National Music and Representation Academy in 1934 and as a part of the Gazi Education Institute in 1937. In the study, document analysis, one of the qualitative research methods, was prepared in the context of the information provided by regulations, government statistics and copyrighted works.
