This study aims to examine the historical development, theoretical definitions, and educational transformation of the concepts of “form” and “genre” in Turkish music. While the concept of form refers to the structural organization of music, genre encompasses classifications related to the functional and contextual aspects of a musical work. The research is structured using a descriptive qualitative model and is based solely on content analysis of selected academic sources. Data were obtained through a systematic review of relevant documents and evaluated under four main themes: formal structures, genre classifications, educational transmission methods, and the contribution of notation to music education. The findings indicate that the meanings attributed to form and genre in Turkish music have evolved significantly from tradition to the present, and that this evolution plays a key role in shaping educational curricula. Especially the use of leveled repertoire enables students to acquire both theoretical knowledge and performance skills in an integrated manner. Moreover, while the notation system contributes to the standardization of form and genre instruction, there remains a continuous search for balance between traditional methods and modern pedagogical approaches. In conclusion, the study suggests that to enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of Turkish music education, the concepts of form and genre should be redefined with respect to their structural, functional, and pedagogical dimensions.
