Abstract

The first period in which Turkish children are introduced to music methodically is the primary school period. In this period, primary school teachers in the Turkish education system play important roles in teaching Turkish children's songs. Determining the musical structures of Turkish children's songs and presenting them as content during the teacher training phase can be very useful. The aim of this study is to examine the Kurdi (Frigian) maqam structure in children's songs taught in Turkey. In this study designed for this purpose, a descriptive research was designed with the document analysis method. In this context, children's songs in the song books used in primary schools in Turkey were scanned. As a result, children's songs called Four Seasons, Bird and Winter, Horon, and Çayda Çıra were examined. After identifying the children's songs, these children's songs were analyzed. As a result of the research, it was determined that both tonal and modal musical structures were used together in Turkish children's songs, and the Kürdi (Frigien) maqam structure was also seen in children's songs. In classroom teacher training programs in Turkey, it would be useful to teach Turkish Music Makams and their structural features in line with the principle of local to universal in content related to music teaching.
