Abstract

In the research, the opinions of university students studying at conservatories that provide music education and taking this course as an elective course regarding the "Turkish Music Solfeggio and Theory" course were examined and suggestions were made. This research, which aims to determine the opinions of students who receive formal education at State Conservatories and take this course, about the Turkish Music Solfeggio and Theory course, was based on a quantitative pattern and a screening model, one of the descriptive research methods, was applied. The research was prepared with 30 students selected by random sampling method who were studying at Kilis 7 December University Alaeddin Yavaşca State Conservatory and taking this course at the university in the 2023-2024 academic year. SPSS method was used to obtain data. Percentage and frequency were used in the analysis of the data obtained. In addition, due to the small number of samples and the lack of normal distribution, the Chi-Square test was used to determine the differentiation. In the research, while the students stated that they attach importance to the Turkish Music Solfeggio and Theory course and that they are aware of the importance of the course in understanding other disciplines, they stated that they have a deficiency in knowing the content of the basic sources on the subjects of Turkish Music Theory and Solfege. In Turkish Music undergraduate education, the Turkish Music Solfeggio and Theory course should be covered more comprehensively, the source richness should be increased, especially classical sources should also be taught, the number of courses should be increased during undergraduate education periods, the practice, demonstration and expression method in the courses should be diversified and multiplied by using materials and the course should be made active. is of great importance. In addition, the fact that Turkish Music Solfeggio and Theory courses keep up with the inevitable innovations brought by the age is an important factor in terms of both the up to date  and interest of course.
